Pages 19 & 20: Borrow/Lend

Mittens found a new comfy spot this week. Better than last weeks paws-in-the-palette.

Thick & Thin: Process

Some process pics of page 8 in this new book I'm working on, illustrating "Thick vs Thin." Is it just me, or do everyone's concept sketches look like pictures drawn by a blinded toddler?

Introducing: Book of Opposites

Here's the shindig: I'm FINALLY out of a sling after a long three months of immobility. During those three months, I experienced many things. Boredom, frustration, insanity, creativity.... essentially all the things I imagine that when collaborated, give artists the um, eccentric rep they tend to carry. And thus, I sat there for days and sketched some amateur-looking doodles with my good hand. These doodles eventually turned into concepts for a new children's book. Craziness talking? Maybe.

The book is called, "The Little Book of Big Opposites," which will be all about..... you guessed it!

I began executing the concepts, and the process of page 1 is pictured. I'm thrilled to finally have my hands in work again, even though I'm technically going against doctor orders here. I'm simply eager to train the arm back into business. We'll just call it art therapy.

Lion Tamer: Sketch

Taking another crack at hanging up my sling and freeing myself from insanity.....
Sketching feels GREAT.

Page C, Concept Sketch

The page concepts thus far for "C"......

C is for cats wearing costumes of cakes.
"We should take these off, I'm concerned we'll get baked!"
"Good idea," said one.  "Hey, look at those crows!"
"Oh no," cried the cats, those crooks stole our clothes!"
"Very clever," said a cat, "but be cautious next time.
We'll catch you then.  You'll pay for your crime!"

Look! A New Book!

I pulled this one deep from the pages of an old sketchbook.  It's an idea I played with for a while, and now with a little time on my hands, I'm happy to be revisiting it.  Titled, "Absolutely Absurd Alphabet," my goal is to create a new, fun book, full of learning with a twist of silly.

Here's what I've been working on over the last couple of days.  "Page L."
These are just initial sketches and some ground work.  I'm currently struggling with the background, since my original ideas aren't meshing as planned.  Open to suggestions.........?

L is for lemurs doing what they do best.
They're having a lollipop-licking contest!
"Listen up, lemurs, don't cheat and don't lie.
If you do, you'll be disqualified!"
"Hurry, lemurs, you're only lucky if you're fast.
Don't be lazy and come in last!"

More from the Sketchbook

Like I said, lots of sketching lately.

When I blank out I draw random animals in awkward poses.
Apparently.

And sometimes I just draw myself inspirational messages.

Platypus Play

Simply playing with the idea of a platypus.

Fun fact:  Male platypus have spurs on their hind ankles that shoot out venom strong enough to incapacitate a human.  Doesn't that just make you wanna cuddle this little fudge pudge?

Something Different

A few people have been pressing my buttons lately.  The matters are irrelevant, but it stirred up a question I've been asked before.  "Have you tried any different styles?"  Yes, I have.  Do I enjoy it?  No, I don't.  Regardless, here's a style I've adopted and stored safely in my art diary, until now.  Portraying some of my regulars, I give you "something different."

Ch-ch-chinchilla!

Just an idea for a character I may to do something with in the future.
Maybe.
